Carlo Alessi

Described by Alessandro Mendini as "the signature object of Alessi production," the Bombé service has a curious origin: Carlo Alessi designed it for his engagement to Germana Bialetti, daughter of the Moka inventor. During their courtship, the two used to sip tea in Bialetti's home under the watchful eye of the future mother-in-law. So when Carlo asked for Germana's hand in marriage, he thought of giving her a domed service, like the family's, but in a more modern material than porcelain. A tribute to the fiancée - and perhaps also a clever move to win over the father-in-law.
