"In my design I tend to introduce elements of organicness, emotional elements, which are not directly related to the reasoning of the functional organization of living." Alessandro Mendini, with this corkscrew parot, symbolic heir to the famous couple Anna G. and Alessandro M., reminds us that design also fulfills its function when it can give us the gift of unexpected joy. In this case, a small surprise that the sommelier keeps in his pocket, capable of transforming, with clever imagination, a utensil of our daily life into a pleasant novelty.
Alessandro Mendini
Born in Milan in 1931, Alessandro Mendini was one of the main innovators of Italian design in the 1980s. Internationally renowned architect, artist, designer, design manager and theorist, he edited leading magazines on the culture of design, spreading his calls for renewal. His long association with Alessi was culturally multifaceted: official historiographer, designer of iconic objects such as the Anna G. corkscrew, architect of the Alessi Museum, of extensions to the Omegna headquarters and of temporary exhibitions, he was the creator and coordinator of projects that have helped transform the company into one of the factories of renowned Italian Design.
