Salone del Mobile 2023 | Milan Design Week

For over a century, we've been creating new ideas, making the ordinary extraordinary, and beauty accessible to everyone. Discover Alessi's exhibition "Ars Metallica" at the Milan Design Week 2023.

The Ars Metallica exhibition presents four projects that highlight Alessi’s ability to employ traditional metalworking to create modern and innovative pieces: a new collection, the Poêle, by Philippe Starck, based on the manufacturing method used to produce frying pans; Conversational Objects, a tableware collection by Virgil Abloh, made from matt-finish stainless steel; and Obget Inutile, an unpublished art multiple designed by Salvador Dalí in 1973, made from a single sheet of folded metal. Finally, a collection of objects created by Giulio Iacchetti, Andrea Branzi, Federico Angi, Michael Anastassiades, Michele De Lucchi, Naoto Fukasawa, Nika Zupanc, Paolo Ulian, and Pierre Charpin.

Grouped together under the title Il Tornitore Matto (“The Mad Turner”), they have been challenged by Alberto Alessi, working in collaboration with Giulio Iacchetti, to use ancient metal-turning technology to conceive a piece that suggests a container.

With the heterogeneous cultural richness implicit in these four projects, the exhibition recalls the intimate nature of Alessi, ‘closer to an industrial research laboratory whose role’, explains Alberto Alessi, ‘is to engage in a continuous mediation between the most advanced and inspired expressions of international creativity on the one hand, and the public’s desires and dreams on the other – a laboratory which by definition has to be distinguished by the utmost openness and receptiveness to the world of creativity.’
